Petition to Repeal Bill C-75 and Stop Dangerous People from Getting Out on Bail

I am calling on local constituents to take a stand and sign a petition demanding the immediate repeal of Bill C-75.

Passed by the Liberal government, this controversial legislation weakened Canada's bail system, allowing dangerous repeat offenders to remain on the streets. This call to action follows the devastating loss of Kellie Verwey, a young woman from Portage La Prairie who was tragically killed in a senseless car crash caused by James Lorne Hilton, a repeat offender with a lengthy criminal history

Hilton, with a long history of criminal behaviour and repeated violations of his bail conditions, caused the horrific crash that ended the life of 28-year-old Kellie. This tragedy highlights the catastrophic flaws in Bill C-75, which has allowed known offenders to continue posing a serious threat to the safety of law-abiding Canadians.

SIGN THIS PETITION

We the undersigned stand with Branden Leslie, MP for Portage-Lisgar and the Conservative Caucus in demanding the repeal of Liberal legislation Bill C-75 which has created dangerous bail policies.

Kellie Verwey a beloved young woman from Portage La Prairie Manitoba was tragically killed in a car crash caused by James Lorne Hilton a repeat offender with a long criminal history. Despite repeatedly violating his bail conditions Hilton was free to roam the streets ultimately claiming Kellie’s life. This tragedy was entirely preventable.

Bill C-75 has weakened our justice system allowing dangerous criminals like Hilton to remain free putting innocent Canadians at risk. This law prioritizes the rights of offenders over the rights of law-abiding citizens. We cannot let this continue.

We demand the Liberal government repeal Bill C-75 and:

  • Strengthen bail criteria to ensure violent offenders are not released

  • Prioritize public safety over leniency towards repeat offenders

  • Hold criminals accountable for bail violations and ensure they face real consequences

Kellie Verwey’s death was not a random accident, it was a direct result of a system that failed to protect her. We must act now to stop more innocent lives from being lost due to policies that put offenders above the safety of our communities.

We call on the Liberal government to repeal Bill C-75 and restore a justice system that holds repeat offenders accountable and protects public safety.
